This is an original, WW2, 1943 dated, German Patronenkasten 88 K98, Mg34/42 wooden Patronenkasten 88" (Munitionskiste) transport box for cardboard boxes of 8x57 ammunition for the K98 service rifle and MG 34/42 machine guns. This box is in good condition and is stencilled on one end 88. The box has a white label on one end of the box where the canvas carrying handle is attached by leather pads and screws. The label states that the case last contained 1450 rounds of ammunition. There is a part label inside the box attached to the lid. The lid is hinged via two leather strap hinges on one end, one of which is snapped and a leather buckle and strap (strap missing) on the other end secure the lid. There is a steel reinforcing strap under the bottom of the case. The case is in good condition complete with two canvas carrying straps and is rare to find, most having rotted or being used as firewood. This box will be additional to any good collection or museum display for the 80th anniversary of the D Day. The price includes U.K. delivery. O 2109
