WW1 1918 U.S Army Model 1917 Trench Combat Helmet (British Brodie) By F.MHS Co With Oil Cloth Sweat Band & Correct Riveted Chin Strap Bales Fitted With Original Leather Chin Strap. HE 345 - HE 345

The Brodie helmet is a steel combat helmet designed and patented in London in 1915 by John Leopold Brodie. A modified form of it became the Helmet, Steel, Mark I in Britain and the M1917 Helmet in the U.S. American troops were issued with M1917 helmets to deploy in France late in 1917. The United States government initially purchased some 400,000 helmets from Britain. From January 1918 the U.S. Army began to use helmets manufactured in the U.S. and these helmets were designated M1917. This is an excellent, original, WW1 U.S. Army M1917 combat helmet. It has its original textured olive paint in excellent condition. It has its correct small rivet at the crown and chinstrap bales attached with rivets rather than split pins found on British Brodie helmets. It is fitted with its original black oil cloth liner ink stamped with maker and date detail ‘F.MHS Co Oct 1918’ and has ‘8 above OSH’ mark (F.MHS Co is a known maker mark found on M1917 helmets). It also has its original paper instruction label at the crown (illustrated) next to impressed size ‘7 1/8’ on the leather crown strap. The rim is stamped ‘ZA 244’ (ZA is a known Lot/ Batch number found on M1917 shells). It has its original brown leather chinstrap with buckle. The price includes UK delivery. HE 345
