A fine cased pair of English double barrelled, tap action flintlock pistols by "TWIGG & BASS" of London . Circa 1788-1790. John Bass was John Twigg's son-in-law. They were partners from 1788 to 1790. Bass operated under his own name from 1790 when John Twigg died but Bass also died shortly after. Engraved on the side-plate "TWIGG & BRASS" and on the other side "LONDON". Very crisp London proof marks to underside of the breech. Sliding top safety. Side by side 3 inch screw off barrels, each engraved with the numbers 1 to 4. The two position tap fitted to the side of frame. Plain flat sided shaped walnut grips. Complete in a green baize lined wooden case with some accessories. A bullet mold, powder flask, turn key and cleaning rod. Pistols are approx 8 inches in length. The box is 13 x 7 x 2.5 inches. A fine example of a good cased pair of English tap action flintlock pistols. Ref 9816. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only.
