A superb pair of English .50 cal Percussion belt pistols by HOLLIS of CHELTENHAM. Circa 1840-1850. The 4 inch blued octagonal barrels engraved on top with the makers name HOLLIS CHELTENHAM. William Hollis had a workshop on the High Street, in Cheltenham circa 1829-1856. The pistols are fitted with a spring belt hooks and swivel captive rammers. Finely chequered walnut grips with a oblong escutcheons fitted to the rear. Fine chiseled lions head nickel butt-caps. London proof marks stamped to the breeches and barrels. Decorative engraved scrolling to the frames, trigger guards and hammers. Dolphin shaped hammers. Actions in good working order. In exceptionally good condition overall and retaining almost all of their original blued finish to the barrels. Overall length approx 9 inches. A fine example of a pair of English percussion belt pistols in almost like new condition, circa 1845. Ref 3960. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only.
