A Very Rare British Naval Ship's Military Flintlock Blunderbuss with a massive heavy brass barrel. The barrel engraved on top with the original ship's name H. M. S.TILBURY. The lock engraved VAUGHAN 1745 (probably JOHN VAUGHAN who had a workshop in London circa 1707-1745 and is known to have made weapons for the British government). Brass trigger guard, two huge iron side nails. Overall length 41 inches. The lock-plate struck with a military broad arrow and small crown as well as a very large engraved crown and G.R. and engraved with the name "VAUGHAN 1745". Lock in good working order. Originally made without a butt-plate The heavy brass barrel struck at the breech with 3 proof marks. Muzzle diameter approx 2 inches. HMS Tilbury was a 58-gun ship of the line of the British Royal Navy ordered from Portsmouth Dockyard on 17 December 1742 to be built to the dimensions laid down in the 1741 proposals. She was launched on 20 July 1745 and in all probability this blunderbuss was part of the ships original munitions as it carries the same date. Very good condition. Ref 1334.
