INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an excellent, original, WW2, 1942 dated Mills No.36M MK 1, hand grenade. The 36M refers to the pattern of Grenade 36 M originally 'Mesopotania' and the fact they were waterproofed. The grenades body retains some of its original varnished finish and retains some of its original green filing ring signifying amatol as an explosive and red crosses at the top signifying filled with explosive. The body of the grenade has following casting marks JP&S (Josiah Parkes & Sons, Willenhall, Staffordshire) and is fitted with a brass filler plug. The zinc base plug is marked 'No 36M Mk 1 Z (Zinc) SDR in a circle and 42 on a circle. The fly off lever is stamped S.C & CO. The inner primer holder has cast into it Z (zinc), 42 (1942 date) and W in a circle.
