INERT DEACTIVATED. This is an early fired APDSFS (Kinetic Energy Long Rod Penetrator) that was originally held in a sabot and fired form the German Leopard main battle tanks 105mm gun. The green coloured penetrator is 18 inches long and is drag stabilised by a 3 inch diameter cone with air bleed holes at the rear. Later penetrators used a fin stabilising method. The penetrator relies on the kinetic energy released by the high velocity projectile on hitting the target, the rings assisting the penetration.
