The grenade was finalised and issued to troops in 1953 to replace the Energa rifle grenade. The M31 rifle worked on the hollow charge principal to penetrate armour and was the last of the rifle launched anti-tank grenades developed before being replaced by the M72 LAW hand held anti-tank launcher. The grenade consists of an all alloy construction with 4 stabilising fins corrugated in a cruciform style. The grenade retains almost all of its original light blue painted finish with white stencilling. The grenade is stencilled in white round the circumference GRENADE RIFLE PRACTICE M31 (INERT) LOT LS-37-4 LOADED 7-64.
