C1850 English Proofed 120 Bore Bar Hammer, 6 Shot Pepper Box Pocket Revolver With Fluted Cylinder & Safety Catch. Sn 21393:7 - 21393:7

This is a nice bar hammer pepperbox made in English form C1850 (examples of bar hammer pepperboxes are illustrated and described in Chapter 9 of Pepperbox Firearms by Dunlap). The action works crisply. The pistol has a cluster of 6 x 1 ¾” barrels and measures 6 ½” overall. The barrel flutes are stamped with English black powder proofs and are numbered 1-6. The smooth bores have just light staining consistent with age. The action, hammer & trigger guard have tooled foliate engraving. It has a stepped steel butt plate. There are no visible manufacturer or date marks. The rear of the action has a sliding safety catch which works correctly. The pistol has its original undamaged finely chequered Walnut grip.
