Description

British Army & Naval Officer’s Webley MK 1 6 Shot .455/ .476 Calibre Service Revolver With 'Birds Head' Grips**UK 2010 DEACTIVATION** (With Replacement 2023 Certificate). D 1541 - D 1541

An official pattern for the Webley Mark 1 revolver was sealed on 8th November 1887 and officially approved for British military service on 31st January 1890. In 1889 the British Government ordered 10,000 Mark 1 revolvers for issue to the British Army & Navy (see pages 180 & 183 of Webley Revolvers by Bruce & Reinhart). This is an excellent, original example of the Webley MK 1 revolver. It has the correct 4" barrel and has even patina with the blueing aged to a nice plum colour. The pistol has the correct, undamaged 'Birds Head' shaped chequered panel vulcanite grips. The frame is crisply marked ‘Webley Patents MK 1’ and with the Webley winged bullet trademark. The barrel is crisply marked ‘P.Webley & Son London & Birmingham’. The frame is stamped with calibre detail ‘.455/.476’ . The pistol is fitted with military lanyard ring. The cylinder frame has a faint mark which looks like ‘BSA-23’ (unknown but possibly Birmingham Small Arms mark indicating refurbishment inter war in 1923). The pistol has matching numbers 38997 / 997 on the frame, barrel block and cylinder. Deactivated to UK specification in 2010, the pistol has a ringed cylinder and blocked barrel & it cocks & dry fires correctly in both double and single action. At some point in its life the 2010 deactivation certificate was lost & in 2023 a replacement UK deactivation certificate was issued, this did not require any additional deactivation work on the pistol. The price includes deactivation certificate and UK delivery **we can arrange for this firearm to be brought up to the latest UK/EU specification for UK customers (customers can purchase on our lay-away scheme. The weapon will then be brought up to EU specification and the relevant certificate obtained prior to the transfer of ownership and delivery)** D 1541
