Commonly referred to as the "Springfield" (after its original place of production, Springfield, Massachusetts), they were the most widely used U.S. Army weapon during the Civil War, favoured for their range, accuracy, and reliability. The rifles were also used during the American Indian Wars. The Springfield lives on today in quality firearms produced by the Italian arms company 'Antonio Zoli & Co' This is an excellent Antonio Zoli & Co made US Army Springfield type percussion rifle. It has an undamaged wood stock and excellent blue finish to the metal work. It has a 26” sighted barrel. The weapon is fitted with sling swivels, colour case hardened action & hammer, brass furniture including a hinged patch box in the shoulder stock. The action plate is crisply marked with the American Eagle device found on Springfield rifles. The weapon has manufacturer inspection marks manufacturer and calibre information together with serial number 30284 (all illustrated). Deactivated to UK specification in 2002 the weapon cocks and dry fires. The price includes deactivation certificate and UK delivery. D 6002
