A copy of a previous owners research notes which contain copies of images of this blade and a copy of Bill’s hand written notes and illustrations accompany the blade. In extracts from his notes Bill states “Ancient Yori Doshi (Armour Piercing Dagger). This is undoubtedly pre 1600 in manufacture and it does look Soshuden school work. Armour piercing daggers are not that common, you don’t see them often. A massive blade, but feels light in the hand. Nakago big taper to a very small jiri (end). Very reminiscent of Mura Masa of ise style. Circa 1490’s-1510’s. The hamon is based on Sugha (straight) on one side, on the other it has irregularities, small gunome. There is a lot of work going on inside hamon. Needs a stone polish to bring it out. The grain is hard to see in places but quite wild in other parts. Probably restored and polished in Meiji period and not touched since. A study piece”. In his illustrations of the blade he describes the cutting edge of blade as 26 cms. Total length 38 cms. He also describes other blade characteristics and dimensions (illustrated). The price includes UK delivery. Sn 20631
