This is an original Colt "Lightning" Revolver. The Colt M1877 was a double action revolver manufactured by Colt's Patent Fire Arms from January 1877 to 1909. The Model 1877 was offered in three calibres, which lent them three unofficial names: the "Lightning", the "Thunderer", and the "Rainmaker". The principal difference between the models was the cartridge in which they were chambered: the "Lightning" being chambered in .38 Long Colt; the "Thunderer" in .41 Colt. Both models had a six-round ammunition capacity. An earlier model in .32 Colt known as the "Rainmaker" was offered in 1877. This Colt “Lightening” has a 3 ½” barrel and measures 8 ¾” overall. Its original factory nickel plated finish has age related areas of tarnish and wear to be expected. It is side gate loading. The pistol is serial number 14948 which is stamped on the frame, trigger guard & butt of the grip frame. The side gate is numbered ‘233’. The frame has Colt’s Hartford USA address and ‘Depot 14 Pall Mall London’ indicating British Import & Retail. The cylinder has small British ‘Crown V’ & ‘Crown CP’ marks. Its original Gutta Percha hard rubber or Bakelite grips have rearing Colt embossed roundels. Deactivated to UK specification in 2005 the pistol has a cut and ringed cylinder and open barrel. The pistol cocks & dry fires in both single and double action (NB occasionally the trigger needs to be moved forward before the trigger can be pulled, the price reflects the condition of the pistol). The price includes UK delivery and deactivation certificate **We can arrange for this firearm to be brought up to the latest UK/EU specification for UK customers (customers can purchase on our lay-away scheme. The weapon will then be brought up to EU specification and the relevant certificate obtained prior to the transfer of ownership and delivery)** Sn 20709:30
